Genesis
1:26-27: And God said: Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let
them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and
over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that
creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in His image, in the image of
God create He him; male and female created He them.
There is a great controversy going on today. People
are becoming very confused as to "Where we came from." The school system
is teaching our kids one thing, and they are getting an entirely different story
in the home. The debate is evolution vs. creation. We either have to
believe that God is the designer and architect of this universe, or we believe a
"big boom" brought us all here by accidents.
There are those who say they cannot believe the Bible
theory. They say there is no scientific evidence to back it up.
However, I say the theory of evolution has very little fact to back up its
belief. I believe in the Bible theory of creation. I believe that
God created the heaven and the earth and everything in it.
Let me give you my top five reasons why I do not believe in
the theory of evolution:
5. I don't believe in evolution because I am not
going to call God a liar.
4. I don't believe in evolution because evolutionists
say we evolved from fish. I find it hard to believe that a fish came out
of water and just started walking around until they took up the appearance of
man. Another reason I don't believe we evolved from fish is that my wife
Lisa is terrified of water. Therefore, she could not have evolved from a
fish.
3. I don't believe in evolution because I don't feel
convicted when I scrape the primordial ooze off my shoes. Evolutionists
say we came from single cell substance. Think about that one for awhile.
2. I don't believe in evolution because evolution
says that the species is always evolving upward. How do you explain body
piercing? I know people who have more metal in their face than they do the
car they are driving.
1. The #1 reason why I don't believe in evolution
(Drum Roll) ***# -- If we evolved from lower life forms, why are there still
lower life forms? There are many holes in the evolutionary theory. I
want to preach for a few moments about where we came from and why we are here.
Many of you have said at some time or another, "Oh, if I
just had an idea about what my purpose in life is!" I'm going to tell you
what your purpose in life is.
"How did we get here?" you ask. Thanks for asking.
God said, "Let US make man ." The word "Us"
is not there by accident. It is not there because the writer slipped it
in. The word "Us" is very important. God was not alone when
He created the universe. How could He have been alone and speak the word "Us"?
So who was there with Him? Was He talking about angels? No. Was He
talking about the other creations like whales, birds and fish? No. They
had not yet been created. None of these things have any power of creation.
The Us God's word is speaking about is God the Father, God the Son, and
God the Holy Spirit. This is the first mention of the three-fold nature of
God, the Holy Trinity, if you will!
Genesis 1:2: And the earth was without form, and
void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God
moved upon the face of the waters. So we see the spirit of God was
there in the beginning. All right, where was Jesus? I am so glad you
asked. Turn with me to John 1:1: In the beginning was the
word. The word here refers to the person of Christ.
And the word was with God and the word was God. Are you beginning
to see the picture? Genesis 1:3: All things were made by Him; and without
Him was not anything that was made. He was in the beginning with God.
Therefore, this tells me that God was not alone when He created the earth.
God said, "Let Us make man in our image."
What is the image of God? Did God have a head? Does He have hands
and fingers? Does He have toes? We know He has eyes and ears. I know
He sits on a throne and I know that God is God. I thing we are at least
some reflection of His image.
You say God is a Spirit and I agree with you.
However, the word "image" is the same word used when you look into a mirror.
You see your reflection. It also says we can reflect His character.
God can think. God can love, be angry. God can be compassionate;
then there are the attributes of God -- His goodness. I really do not know
what God looks like, but we have all these abilities.
"Why were we created?', you ask. Again, thanks for
asking. You were created for a purpose. I do not believe in
accidents. I believe God has a plan. He has a process for every
person. Whether you are saved or not, God still has a plan for your life.
God created man to have dominion over the entire beasts of
the fields, the fowls of the air, and the water and all the crawling, creepy
things. That is not the only reason God created you -- He created you also
for His glory. Thin of the beauty of this; God created everything in its
place. He created the stars, the moon and the sun and put them all in
their perspective place. However, man was created for His glory.
Let me quote a verse from Isaiah: Even everyone that
is called by my name, I have created him for My glory; I have made him.
You are here for His glory and your life should give Him glory. Without
doing this your life is wasted. We are given the awesome privilege of
being a vessel of honor in the Master's bouquet. We should serve Jesus by
living as if you love Him.
Genesis 2:7: And the Lord God formed man of the dust
of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became
a living soul. God spoke creation into existence. Did you
ever wonder why God chose dust for the creation of man? Why did He not
choose gold? "Lord, its hard to be humble when you are made from 24 carat
gold." However, for that very reason I believe God chose dust -- to keep
us humble. "From dust you came and to the dust ye shall return."
There is no value in us alone. He chose the lowest of His creation to make
man, to teach us a lesson, I suppose. God knew we would be hard to keep
humble, so He made us from a handful of clay.
Now let me tell you the real reason you are here. No
only did God create man physically, but He also created him spiritually.
You are here today because you are a spiritual being. Now, when God
created all the trees, grass and animals, they got up and walked around and did
all the things creatures do. However, when He created man, He created him
with a living soul. God place eternity in every person's heart. Even
before you became a Christian you wondered what would happen if you died.
I know I used to lie awake at night wondering, "What's out there? If I died
would I go to heaven or would I go to hell?" I believe we have all done
that. We did that because God put eternity into our hearts. He
breathed into the nostrils of man and he became a living soul, spiritually
alive.
Keep in mind that women were not made of dust. Do you
know why? Because women hate dust!!. All joking aside, why did God
make woman from the rib of a man? Because man is not complete without a
woman in his life. She is his helpmate, his soul mate. Not all men
are married, but many of us men would be lost without our wives. God chose
the rib bone of man to show she was equal to man, becoming as one flesh when
they are joined together in the union of marriage. God created you to have
the capacity to know Him.
